Duo, when a shape becomes an icon

When looking at a piece of design furniture, its shape communicates many things, not merely how a certain object is supposed to be used. Through the simple interaction of lines, a silhouette comes into being, expressing style, elegance and a sense of exclusivity. When the shape is timeless and identifiable – that’s when it becomes iconic. Koen Van Extergem designed the Duo chair, playing on the contrast between stability and fragility. The elegant, airy piece was created with the purest of lines and has been an icon ever since.

Duo chair

Moulded by subtlety

True to Manutti quality, the Duo collection is marked by the duality of traditional craftmanship and sophisticated metalwork. In line with the current trend of making connections visible, the chair is composed of two curved aluminium frames attached to each other. This gives the impression that the entire structure is held together by ropes. The clarity of the materials accentuates the aesthetics of the chair. Weaving the interchangeable seating takes more than 16 hours, giving the chair its defining, remarkable look.

Duo chair

Rock-a-bye baby

Recently, the Duo collection was complemented with a rocking chair version, the winner of the 2018 Archiproducts Design Award. Enabling a gentle sway, it allows the body to rest in comfort and style. Hard to resist! At the same time, Duo’s incredible resilience stands up to any challenge. Both the Duo chair and rocking chair are available in Lava and Flint structures and seating in teak or woven fabric.

Duo chair

A beacon of transparency

One look is all it takes to appreciate Duo’s sturdiness and lightness. The airy design plays with transparency, making the chair a perfect fit for every outdoor setting: giving a grand patio that stylish minimalistic appeal or elegantly decorating a small city balcony. Either way, Duo brightens up any room like a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day.
