Kumo, lightness by design

Creativity doesn’t have to depat from practicality. Designers may allow themselves to let their imagination run wild. But when the vision turns into reality, it’s all about aligning the design to the end user. French designer Lionel Doyen has mastered this skill. While his style is quite personal and experimental, he always keeps the customer experience in mind. The Kumo collection is a perfect example of how he blends design and everyday comfo_t. Poetic and playful, this lightweight sofa concept brightens up every outdoor moment by enabling customers to create their own refined, personalised cocoons.

On cloud nine

For Kumo, Doyen relied on his practical understanding of product usability and his eye for fine details to create a contemporary seating island that goes beyond aesthetic appeal. Named after the Japanese word for cloud, Kumo is both airy and firm due to its powder coated aluminium base and foam seating. The sofa concept with interchangeable covers comes in different shapes and sizes, along with decorative pillows, seat, and back cushions from the extensive Manutti fabrics range. The armrests and back suppots are easily adjustable and movable, transforming the Kumo cloud into a plush sofa or stylish lounger, a luxurious lounge chair or relaxing footrest.

Ode to the sun

Thanks to its modular and versatile design, Kumo fits into any indoor or outdoor environment. Whether it’s in the intimacy of a private terrace, by the pool or in a majestic hotel lobby, Kumo will never look out of place. Large or small, sleek or luscious, the vision and setup are completely adjustable to one’s taste. Its seating and throw pillows come in a wide range of colours – from muted naturals and sunny bright shades – to help create that defining mood or add an extra touch of light. With Kumo, the sun essentially breaks through the clouds.
